Abdulrahman AlShabib
An AML/CFT supervisor, Abdulrahman works with Government Bodies, International Organizations, Financial Institutions, and Fintechs to mitigate the risks of ML/TF/PF in the financial market. His role within the AML/CFT department is to advise in regard to new technology and trends in the financial markets and ensure that the risk-based approach framework is implemented effectively. Additionally, Abdulrahman is a member of the Regulatory Sandbox Committee, which provides a safe and secure environment for experimenting with new technology and business models. In his role as Subject Matter Expert, Abdulrahman assesses the ML/TF/PF risks for the new business model to identify the risks and advises on what preventive measures should be implemented to mitigate the risks.
In addition to his work at SAMA, Abdulrahman is a member of several expert groups on different international organizations, such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the United Nations (UN). Abdulrahman also has international experience, as he has previously worked at the World Bank Group, where he provided legal advice concerning fraudulent practices, corrupt practices, and staff misconduct to the Business Conduct Department.
With his technical and legal background, Abdulrahman contributed in 2019 to Saudi Arabia obtaining full membership in FATF, as he was involved at the time with amending the AML/CFT-related law and regulations— and led the team to develop the AML/CFT guidance issued by SAMA.
Abdulrahman holds LL.M. with Academic Honors from Georgetown University. He is also certified by Georgetown Law Center in financial and securities law.
