Tony Salamone
Prior to his attaché role, Tony served as the Director of the Office of Information Sharing within Treasury’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA) where he was the Senior Foreign Disclosure and Release Authority for the Department. In this role, he also represented the Treasury Department to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) to modernize various OIA operations, earning him national recognition from the ODNI.
Tony has substantive experience as a Treasury Financial Attaché, having served as the Department’s representative in Kabul, Afghanistan from 2016-2017. During his tenure at Embassy Kabul, Tony led the negotiations for the addition of an IMF ECF benchmark in the U.S.-Afghanistan Bilateral Compact and worked closely with Afghan and international counterparts to address technical assistance needs for combating the financing of terrorism.
Before joining Treasury, Tony worked in the private sector as a Senior Consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton at Fort Meade after serving in the Marine Corps for 12 years. Tony was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, two Combat Action Ribbons, and several unit campaign medals for his wartime deployments to Afghanistan and other non-war operations. Tony has a M.A. in International Economics and Emerging Markets from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. in Criminal Intelligence and National Security from the American Military University.
